Compressive behaviour of hardwood dowel reinforced CLT loaded perpendicular-to-Grain

چکیده
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements in structures may be exposed to high perpendicular-to-grain compressive stresses, which often require reinforcement improve the inherently low strength and stiffness of perpendicular-to-grain. This experimental study evaluates behaviour CLT when reinforced by hardwood dowels. Groups 3 5-ply specimens with dimensions 400 mm × mm, without dowel reinforcement, were tested. The specimen most Douglas Fir 4-ф25mm American White Ash dowels, achieved a mean increase 120% 240%, respectively. Finite element models created ABAQUS predict tested evaluate distribution stresses. Finally, simple design equation is presented provides reasonable predictions for CLT.

Experimental study of locally loaded timber in compression perpendicular to the grain
Since the test method for compression strength perpendicular to the grain was changed from a partial area to a full area loading test, strength values for softwood in EN 338 were significantly reduced. Consequently, a change in Eurocode 5 was necessary to ensure an equivalent resistance level in compression perpendicular to the grain. Experimental results are presented with wood in compression ...
متن کاملReversed Cyclically Loaded Dowel-Type Fasteners
In contrast to nailed connections, little research has been done on bolted connections using a reversed cyclic loading scheme, although cyclic loading provides important information about energy absorption and damping properties, which is essential when analyzing seismic performance. Dowrick (1986) noted that the hysteretic characteristics for the primary connection of a subassembly govern its ...
متن کاملLoad-carrying behaviour of steel-to-timber dowel connections
This paper details tests on steel-wood-steel connections with thin dowels carried out at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Connections configurations were selected in such a way that the influence of the main parameters such as dowel slenderness ratio, dowel strength, fastener spacing and end distance and the number of dowels could be studied. An important issue of the pa...
متن کاملUnidirectionally, Laterally Loaded Dowel-Type Fasteners Multiple-Bolt Joints
For many years U.S. design codes modeled the design values of a multiple-bolt joint as the design value of a single-bolt connection multiplied by the number of bolts. The provisions were based on research conducted by Trayer (1932) who observed an equal distribution of load among bolts. This was despite the fact that research conducted as early as in the late 19 century suggested an uneven load...
